Limited data are available to evaluate the efficacy of registered dietitians nutritionists (RDNs) for treating obesity in practice based settings. Results from the recently completed RDN Outcome Study, a peer-mentored outcomes evaluation experience for RDNs working in out-patient, practice-based, adults weight management settings, will be presented. Future directions and resources to support practice-based outcomes evaluations will be discussed.

Discuss existing data regarding the efficacy of registered dietitians nutritionists as providers of obesity treatment.

Explain the process of developing a framework, including goals and objectives, for an evidence-based weight management intervention including an implementation, monitoring, and evaluation plan.

Examine the framework, challenges, and outcomes of a mentored, practice-based monitoring and evaluation study for registered dietitians nutritionists working in the field of weight management.
