This session provides an update of recent findings on vegetarian nutrition, as it relates to human health and ecological sustainability. It reviews the Academy's recently updated position paper on vegetarian diets, including questions on nutritional adequacy and health benefits associated with plant-based dietary patterns. Dietetic professionals will receive the current scientific and practical information required to support clients and educate the public in making safe, effective and ecologically-friendly transitions to plant-based eating. list at least two non-animal (vegan), plant-based food sources for protein, calcium, vitamin B12 and iron to meet the nutritional needs of children, teenagers and adults.

list three diseases that vegetarian diets may be effective in preventing and/or treating as a medical nutrition therapy intervention.

identify five positive environmental contributions that adopting a plant-based/vegetarian lifestyle can have on the wellbeing of our planet's land and ocean ecosystems.
