Given the population's widespread challenges achieving energy balance, it is increasingly important to understand the biological, psychological and environmental factors impacting appetite and food choices. This session will provide an in-depth overview on the sensory, cognitive and physiological influences on dietary intake, and examine the impact of food form and nutrient composition on appetite sensations and the desire and decision to eat. It will also provide evidence-based guidance on the role that meal size, frequency, composition and timing plays in optimizing satiety.

Discuss the newest developments in satiety research, including the brain's role in eating patterns and appetite regulation.

Identify the factors influencing the drive to eat as well as the psychological and physiological effects at each step in the satiety cascade.

Describe meal and snack patterns that optimize appetite control and satiety throughout the day
