Nutrition for Sports, Performance, and Fitness
The Paleo Diet has received a lot of popular press attention and has been promoted in books for the public as a diet that can improve athletic performance and health. This presentation will evaluate the scientific support for these health and performance claims. In addition, concerns regarding the nutritional adequacy and practical application of the Paleo diet will be reviewed.Planned with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Committee for Professional Development, in collaboration with the Sports, Cardiovascular and Wellness Nutrition DPG.
Define the key principles of the Paleo diet approach, identifying foods that are and are not recommended on this diet
Describe positive features of the Paleo diet and critique the findings of clinical studies of the Paleo diet
Identify key nutritional shortcomings and scientific misconceptions associated with the Paleo diet, particularly with regard to athletes
