This educational session will review the prevalence and risk factors of childhood obesity in children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) while describing how family-based weight loss interventions with an established evidence base for typically developing children can be translated for use with adolescents and young adults with IDD. The presenters draw on their experience conducting two NIH-funded randomized controlled intervention trials, one underway, NIH R01HD072573-01A1. State current estimates of the prevalence of childhood obesity in children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
