Nutrition support is a specialized interdisciplinary practice. Overlap of nutrition-related practices among disciplines has grown. It is important to promote advanced clinicians for optimal patient care, generate outcomes research and to ensure the RD is the preferred nutrition support care provider. This session will outline ACEND's development of Advance Practice Residencies (APR) and give practical steps for implementing an APR. Specific examples from the nutrition support experience will be examined.

Objectives:
  • Describe ACEND guidelines for the development of an Advanced Practice Residency.
  • Discuss practical examples on how the guidelines can be integrated into various settings and for specific populations.
  • Formulate a roadmap for obtaining advanced practice nutrition support skills.
