MNT provided by RDNs for CKD can delay disease progression and help prevent or treat complications. RDNs who counsel CKD patients are not always familiar with the dietary recommendations and may lack confidence in their ability to provide MNT for CKD. Medicare coverage is underutilized by RDNs. This spotlight session is designed to address barriers for RDNs in providing CKD MNT, learn new strategies to provide MNT for CKD patients and how to get reimbursed for MNT. Also, resources for CKD education, renal MNT and reimbursement will be reviewed along with website resources.Planned with the Renal Dietitians DPG

Understand the basics of CKD, the importance of CKD MNT, the current utilization of CKD MNT, the barriers of CKD MNT, and the benefit of CKD MNT to individuals and society.

Familiarize themselves with the NKDEP and their development of CKD Management Training program. The attendee will understand the online training course and other available resources for a dietitian providing CKD MNT.

Utlize the steps to become a Medicare provider, understands what patients qualifies for CKD MNT, the billable hours for CKD MNT, the reimbursement process and examples of individuals successfully providing CKD MNT.
