Emerging Integrative Approaches for Nutrition and Dietetics Practice
Grand A
Join us to hear a panel of respected former Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (DGAC) members discuss their perspectives of how the Dietary Guidelines have evolved and how, as leaders in nutrition, we can look ahead to the future and help make the 2015 guidelines actionable. A diverse, dynamic group of former DGAC members will review the process of creating the Guidelines, discuss the existing and emerging science base that was used to create the DGA 2015, and entrenched controversies that may confuse the public. Together, the audience and the panel will discuss what has previously worked with the public in terms of translating the DGA, what has not worked, and what might help to make the 2015 DGA more accessible and effective. Finally, as we begin to look towards 2020, gaps in nutrition science will be reviewed by the panel. Audience participation, including questions, suggestions, commentary, and experiences, will be a part of this interactive session. Participants will gain insights and a better understanding of the depth and rigor that goes into developing the guidelines and the role they can play in their translation to the public. Also, attendees will better understand how the DGA process can be used to inform nutrition messaging throughout the U.S. from our federal and state nutrition safety net programs to everyday food choices at home and away from home.
