Although there is evidence on the intake of omega-3 fatty acids across the population, there is limited evidence on dietary consumption of omega 3 fatty acid during pregnancy and the effect on infants. Evidence to support dietary intervention to improve health outcomes during pregnancy is limited. There is some evidence linking omega-3 fatty acids during pregnancy and its effect on infant outcomes. This session will explore the outcomes of infant behavior, cognition and adiposity. Finally, efforts to disseminate the research to inform clinical practitioners has been limited. Dietetic professionals can play a critical role in delivering this evidence-based lifestyle practices for the consumption of omega-3 fatty acids during pregnancy. Analyze the current evidence of Omega 3 fatty acids during pregnancy and its effect on infant outcomes including infant behavior, cognition and adiposity.

Describe the state of the evidence for dietary interventions to improve health outcomes during pregnancy including the current recommendations of omega 3 fatty acids during pregnancy.

Develop a plan to disseminate evidence-based lifestyle practices for the consumption of omega 3 fatty acids during pregnancy.
