The gut microbiome, bacteria in the gut harnessing energy from food, may play a role in obesity and provide a causal link to metabolic syndrome. Current research in this field will be described and linked to obesity and other diseases. Fiber intake, vegan & omnivore patterns and their impact on the microbiome will be explored.
